Five Foodie Favorites

Five Foodie Favorites

We challenged our ‘Eats At’ contributors to name their five favorite restaurants in Minneapolis- their immediate response, ‘Impossible!’ But after a little encouragement, and what they say in the basketball biz, a full-court press, they said, ‘Game on!” So whether you are visiting for the much anticipated NCAA Final Four Tournament or you are here to explore the city of lakes, below you’ll find few foodie slam dunks.

Fried chicken, chicken and waffles, or fried green tomatoes? All of the above. Go with friends who like to eat and order as much as possible. The harder choice is deciding your fried chicken prep - southern fried, Tennessee hot, poultrygeist or gluten friendly. Rotating, local brews on tap, ciders and a nice wine list. Don’t miss the banana cream pie for dessert (best in the city!). Uber eats also available.

Our favorite, SW Minneapolis neighborhood pasta bar for basically ever. Go early. Seating is first come, first serve and the line starts before the doors open (4:30 M-F, 4:00 S-S), but so worth the wait! Insider tip - order the #11. The house made pasta is incredible but you can’t go wrong. Cozy for a date, but also kid friendly. Need to feed a crowd? Go to Broders’ Cucina Italiana across the street and pick-up family style entrees to go. #StarchMadness

Located in Midtown Minneapolis, Gandhi Mahal is the best Indian food in the city. A peaceful, family-owned restaurant with dishes cooked from Bangladeshi/Indian recipes passed down for generations. Authentic as hell! Plenty of vegetarian and paneer options. They aren’t kidding when they say “full spice.” Order your spice level with caution!

Everyone is a regular at Moose and Sadies. Modern cafe, with super friendly staff and patrons. Go for brunch and order the Huevos and the special pancake of the day. Weather permitting, take advantage of the dog friendly patio. For splurge shopping, check out designer curated fashions at Grethen House, covet vintage jewelry at Filigree Jewelers or Martin Patrick 3 (for the fellas). Take a walk by the river or stroll through Gold Medal Park.

Named “Best French Restaurant, populist vote” by Mpls St. Paul magazine, Barbette is our go to date night spot with a charming, eclectic vibe. Fantastic cocktail and an impressive wine list. Local farmed ingredients preferred and vegetarian and gluten free options. Order the Pommes Frites to share. If you can make it a late night, head to the historic Uptown Theater for a classic midnight movie.
